Last Thursday we headed north from Anchorage make the loop up the Parks Highway to theDenali Highway and back down the Richardson Highway to the Glenn Highway and home. I did the trip about 4 or 5 years ago with my parents but Zach and obviously Zelda had never gone. You may wonder why we thought so much highway time would be enjoyable, but these highways are generally just two lane roads and the Denali Highway is mostly gravel. The entire area is quite scenic.
We camped eached night. Zelda did really well with camping. She was excited to be right next to mama and papa in the tent and took awhile to settle down the first night, but overall having her stuff and routine in place even in a tent seemed to work. So well, in fact, that she let us sleep until 9 a.m. on Saturday. We haven’t slept that late since she was born!
I cooked up a storm before ensuring we would eat well on the road. No granola bars and trail mix for us. We also fully embraced car camping bringing along Zelda’s pack ‘n play and our air mattress. We were a cozy group of six in the station wagon. We arrived back to Anchorage on Saturday evening, still giving us a day of weekend before getting back to the grind.
This trip was so successful we have another camping adventure in Valdez planned again for the end of the month. I am looking forward to it.
