Zach went out to the coop to check on the ladies, which is how we refer to the chickens collectively since they don’t have names, and found a buff not long for this world. He wrapped her up and brought her to the garage and managed to get some water in her, but she was already gone. Apparently we have mites in the coop, which happens and they act fast. She was her usual bossy self when I was out there just a couple of days ago giving them bread and veggie scraps. We’ve treated the others and hopefully the mites have been bested and the other ladies will continue to give us tasty eggs.
While not our pets, the buff was our favorite chicken and will be missed. She was docile, easy to handle and a reliable layer of huge eggs.
